France's social leasing scheme for electric cars is back since July 16, 2026, with 18 models starting at €94 a month.
France's subsidized electric-car leasing scheme returned on July 16, 2026, its third edition after the 2024 launch and the September 2025 renewal. The idea stays the same: let lower-income households drive a new electric car for a monthly payment well below market rates.
A new way of funding it
Unlike previous editions, the aid is no longer financed directly from the state budget. It now runs through the CEE mechanism, energy-savings certificates that require energy suppliers to fund ecological transition actions.
Bigger aid for European-made vehicles
The base aid is 6,500 euros, rising to 9,000 euros if the vehicle and its battery are made in the European Economic Area, and up to 9,500 euros if the motor is also EEA-made. The monthly rental cap was also raised, from 150 to 200 euros, with prices now starting at 94 euros a month across 18 eligible models.
Who can apply
Households that already benefited from the scheme in 2024 or 2025 aren't eligible for the 2026 edition. The government has allocated a 401 million euro budget, aiming to equip at least 50,000 more households.
