France's EV Purchase Grant 2026: Higher Amounts After Three Years of Cuts

The premium that replaced France's old ecological bonus rose in 2026, up to 5,700 euros for the lowest-income households.
The name changed, and it still confuses many buyers: since July 1, 2025, France's ecological bonus for buying a new private electric car was replaced by the 'Coup de pouce véhicules particuliers électriques' grant, now financed through energy-savings certificates (CEE) rather than the state budget.
Aid amounts rise again after three years of cuts
After three consecutive years of declining amounts, the grant was raised again in 2026. Households in precarious situations can now get up to 5,700 euros, up from 4,200 euros in 2025. Modest, non-precarious households get 4,700 euros, and other eligible households get 3,500 euros.
An extra bonus for European-made batteries
A top-up of 1,200 to 2,000 euros applies to vehicles fitted with batteries manufactured in Europe, a way of steering demand toward closer supply chains and supporting Europe's battery industry.
